Gaming Floor and Hours

At SkyCity Hamilton, our lively casino floor buzzes day and night with over 330 gaming machines and 23 table games, spanning 16,000 square feet of gaming space. If you’re into slots, video machines with pretty diverse denominations or you’re after a shot at a big jackpot, we’ve set up a mix you’ll notice right away. Progressive pots, automated tables, classic cards - you name it. To play, you just need your SHOW by SkyCity card or valid Premier Rewards card, swipe in and you’re set. You must be at least 20 years old to enter the casino.

The casino operates 24 hours daily, except it is closed from 4am to 10am Monday to Friday. We’re also closed Christmas Day, Good Friday, and from 3am to 1pm on Anzac Day. No person under 20 is allowed on the gaming floor, and our dress code asks everyone to keep it neat.

Out on the tables - blackjack, roulette, baccarat, poker in several flavours, all ready to go. Our automated tables let you bet electronically while watching the dealer live, mixing real cards with digital ease.

How the Rewards Card Works

To get your Premier Rewards card, just come up to our desk or take a minute online - whichever you like. Bring your name, address, phone, a working email and photo ID. Valid IDs are current New Zealand or overseas passport, NZ driver licence, HANZ 18+ card, or other government ID with photo and date of birth. As long as you’re at least 20 and haven’t been barred from SkyCity properties, you’re good to go.

If you sign up in person, your card is in your hand immediately. Signing up online? We’ll mail it to you. Either way, you need to activate it once before you play. That card keeps track of your time, unlocks rewards, and lets you manage gaming breaks, valid at any SkyCity spot in NZ.

For large transactions, we might ask for extra details to comply with anti-money laundering laws. It’s rare, but happens.

SkyCare Breaks for Responsible Play

We’re serious about players’ wellbeing. That’s why our SkyCare Breaks make sure no one overplays or loses track of time. The system kicks in automatically with mandatory rest periods throughout your gaming session. Every minute with your card is tracked live, so you can see your session status right on your screen. When a break pops up, your card pauses - it won’t work until your time clears, so everyone gets a real rest. You can even check your break status through your online portal if you need to step out.

All our staff are trained to spot warning signs and are happy to step in if someone looks at risk. The Gaming Helpline (0800 654 655) is always there, night or day, offering confidential support for players and families. If you want to take a longer break, we offer self-exclusion options - your card is deactivated and entry blocked during the exclusion period.

More Than Just Gaming

When you’re ready for a breather, wander over to the 8 bars and restaurants inside the complex - we’ve got everything from speedy snacks to proper sit-down dinners. Need another kind of fun? The world-class bowling alley Bowl and Social is always humming, especially with groups. We’ve also got an X-Golf simulator available in the complex for those looking to swing a club.

We regularly host live entertainment featuring all kinds of artists, local and from further afield. Check our events calendar for lineups. These shows happen away from the main casino, so you can enjoy them no matter your plans (age restriction in place for casino, not performance areas).

Our spot by the river connects you to Hamilton’s CBD and those scenic Waikato River paths. Parking is available on-site, or hop off public transport within a quick walk of the main doors.

Payments, Cash and Transactions

Gaming machines accept various bank note denominations for your convenience. Many machines use modern cashless systems: load up credits, play, then cash out and take your ticket to any cashier or redemption point.

Want to sit at a table game? Chips are available straight from the dealer or at the cashier. Minimum and maximum bets are set by each table, and there’s signage so you always know the limits. There are also higher-stakes tables in separate areas, if that’s your thing.

Our cashier desk helps with ticket redemptions, converting chips, and bigger cash dealings. For some larger transactions, we’ll need your ID and additional paperwork due to anti-money laundering rules. The exact limits aren’t listed for everyone, but our team will let you know if any details are needed.

There are ATMs on the gaming floor if you need to grab more cash. Regular bank fees and your daily card limits apply, just like anywhere else.

Entering the Casino

When you arrive, have a valid ID handy. We accept current government-issued photo identification including New Zealand and overseas passports, driver licences with photo, and other official documents showing your photo and date of birth.

We don’t take copies, phone screenshots or expired documents. Security scans or logs your ID as required by regulations.

Dress matters - we ask everyone to look neat, so no gang symbols, rude logos, or coming in extremely casual. Security at the door makes the final call. Refusal is possible.

Bag searches happen from time to time. Weapons, banned substances and recording tools are out. Please leave those in your car or use a locker. Bring your phone, but you can’t take video or photos in gaming areas, ever.

No one under 20 can enter gambling spaces, join the rewards club, or enter casino promotions. If you look under 25, bring ID. There are no exceptions.
